Les Baxter The Sounds of Adventure Capitol Records 1965 ...

Les Baxter needs no introduction and in this release he's at his atmospheric best. Each track on this double vinyl sounds like a movie soundtrack from days of old.

Its not all exotica by any stretch but its a great album which more than holds its own. My personal picks are "Blue Jungle", "Bustin the Bongos" (I which it sounds like the player is doing just that!) and will I ever tire of "Quiet Village?"

Enjoy The Sounds of Adventure.

Wahine of the Week: Ms. Redd ...

Our latest Wahine of the Week comes straight from the front cover of Issue 15 of Bachelor Pad Magazine. Introducing Ms. Redd...

The feature in this issue was shot at none other than the famous Frankie's Tiki Room in Las Vegas. Its one way to draw in the punters! See her on some of the 56 pages of Atomic Age goodness on offer in the forthcoming issue! You don't want to miss this one!

Tiki for Dogs ...

So you and your dog love Tiki right? Well why not mix the two with some items from Kawaii Paws? They'll be the talk of the next Labrador Luau!

This cool Easter Island Moai dog toy brings the Islands to your backyard or living room! Soft durable Bodies all squeek and are stylized like cool stone Polynesian Gods!

This Casual Canine Aloha Camp shirt is a lightweight Hawaiian print shirt for pets. The perfect relaxed style, this dog shirt features a classic beach scene print and high cut belly for a cozy fit.

Perhaps my favourite is the Tiki Hut collar, with more than a hint of Shag, its a great way to Tikify your Terrier without getting you pointed at in the street. I struggle enough with the "You know the guy with the Hawaiian shirt!" tag as it is!

Robert Lopshire - Native Dancers...

This delightful Twentieth Century illustration for a mens magazine by Robert Lopshire titled native Dancers was recently sold at auction for a price in the region of $1800.00 US.

It was painted in gouache on board measuring 11.75 x 23.5 in. I'm not a great fan of pin up art, but I do have a soft spot for this as it so very much reminds me of the covers of the boy comics I would read as a kid.

LEGO Tiki Bar...

A few weeks ago I posted my first and hopefully last plastic Wahine of the Week! While she is plastic she does have a certain charm ;0) But where would you find such a woman? I think I've found the answer...

As featured on TikiTalk.com this model was built by LEGO enthusiast Bill Vollbrecht. This incredible reproduction of a tiki bar made from LEGO bricks was created in homage to the now long gone King Kwongs Polynesian restaurant in Salt Lake City.

There are a lot of great details in the piece, including glass float lights above the bar (that actually light up), a waitress serving a drink in a coconut cup, and a giant tiki in the corner!
