Shag: All at Sea...

Despite his recent accident SHAG continues his prolific works for Disney. This Summer (... Winter for the inhabitants of the Secret Island!) Disney will release the full Walt Disney World 40th Anniversary collection. I can hardly wait to see the prints and piles of merchandise that will be made available before I bid for them with hugely inflated prices on eBay.

"Top Deck" by SHAG

In addition to the amazing artwork that Shag has created for Walt Disney World, he has also created new artwork for the Disney Cruise Line! SHAG’s Disney Cruise Line artwork captures the magic and excitement of the Cruise Liner and and the tropical island paradise of Castaway Cay, Disney's very own Island!.

'Island Intermission' by SHAG
"The talented teams at Disney Theme Park Merchandise have pulled elements out of each of the paintings and applied them in fun and creative ways to commemorative merchandise keepsakes. SHAG’s artwork for the Disney Cruise Line can be found on charm bracelets, designer apparel for men and women, postcard sets, as well as home goods such as a tumbler set and coaster collection."

If you want to check out what is available take a look at Tiki Chick's Blog.

If you've not seen the Disney Dream check this video clip out ...

... I'll be sure to give it a wave as it passes on the horizon.

Shag designed Fez ...

To commemorate 10 years of tiki magic Fez-o-rama have announced what may be the greatest mash-up in designer tiki art headwear: The official Tiki Oasis fez! This rare, limited edition fez features fabric designed by world renowned illustrator and artist Shag exclusively for Tiki Oasis and handcrafted into a swanky noggin topper by the upper primates at Fez-o-rama.

Limited to only 50 pieces and due to the nature of the printed fabric, no two will be exactly alike! Each of these high profile fezzes will feature an antique brass tassel grommet and imported brass tassel lock for easy tassel adjustment and the quilted black lining includes both the new four color Fez-o-rama and Shag Limited Edition labels.

Production starts with a pre-order of one of the six sizes available. If you fancy one of these get across to their website now.

Shag - A print, an exhibition and a life threatening injury ...

SHAG latest print release is "Cat Serenade" a fifteen colour serigraph measuring in at 43 x 57cm. It is available now from the Shagmart.

The newsletter from the Shagmart also contained the following:

Many of you have heard about the life-threatening accident that Shag suffered a few weeks ago. We want to thank you for all of the well wishes and let you know that he is expected to make a full recovery. Due to the accident, Shag is planning to take the next year or so easy and will not be exhibiting any original paintings.

Concerned at this news I've had a dig around on the internet and Tiki Central and I'm still none the wiser. Although I was a little relieved to hear that he was able to attend the opening night of his new exhibition Ambergris at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York.

Tiki's still feature but ...

Agle resumed surfing for the first time since his early twenties, at which time, he began to have recurring dreams about whales trying to kill him. The nightmares prompted the artist to read Herman Melville classic novels Moby Dick and Billy Budd, which further sparked his interest in whales, whaling, sea farers and nautical themes. Each painting in this series contains a whale or large fish, adorned with hot-rod style pinstripes, to complement the artist’s signature aesthetic.

Ambergris the title of the exhibition itself refers to foul smelling wax-like substance secreted within the intestines of the sperm whale! At least nothing about the exhibition stinks.

Some new additions ...

Here are a couple of my most recent additions to the collection here on the Secret Island. The first is a mug from Tiki Location John's Garden, Malibu, manufactured by Tiki Farm in 2010. The mug is available in two colors: bright orange and blue, the colors of nearby Pepperdine University. The mug is a highball design, with four surfboard "shields" and a tiki. I ordered this from Hermosa General Store which is an excellent online eBay store. Check them out.

The other is a set of SHAG coasters in a collectible tin. I must mention that the first set I ordered were lost in the post but the seller expressed a second set to me when I mentioned that they'd not arrived. Proof that there are some nice people still out there.

Shag's Inscrutable Mystery Guide ...

My Josh Agle (aka SHAG) artifacts have pride of place here at The Secret Island. I'm a great fan, I particularly enjoy his Tiki works. His latest offerings were linked to his Australian exhibit The Inscrutable Mystery Guide.

There were a series small original Tiki paintings, each bearing a secret symbol, plus a book that explained the symbology. Only buyers of these originals will see the book.... but if you want to see the Tiki's then follow the link to the excellent Outre Gallery.
